Mushrooming energy in the Mid East.

HERE WE GO KIDS

As the UN leadership wriggles uncomfortably, and ineffectvely with Iran's growing nuclear program, others take the hint. Egypt has made it clear they would like to join the nuclear community, and now we see Jordan popping up with the same thing.

While Egypt and Jordan are often regarded as moderate nations in the Middle Eastern politics, a little digging shows danger below the surface. terror friendly groups find popoular support in both countries, as per the Muslim Brotherhood, which actulally participates in Egypts politcs, or the large body of 'palestinians' in Jordan, who praise Hamas, as they used to praise Saddam.

The Middle East is not a stable place. Many would argue that nuclear development in the region is none of our business, but as the world continues to shrink, we learn that Buddha haters in Afganistan actually can help kill thousands in New York City.  If the governments of Jordan, or Egypt ever became radicalized through elcetions, or overthrow, who would be taking care of the nuclear fuel then?

Jordan parliament clears way for nuclear power

Sun Apr 22, 3:08 PM ET

The Jordanian parliament passed legislation Sunday clearing the way for the small energy-poor kingdom to develop nuclear power, the official Petra news agency said.

Jordan is the latest in a string of Sunni Arab countries to announce plans to develop civil nuclear programmes in the face of the controversial programme of Shiite Iran. Egypt and the pro-Western Gulf states have already unveiled similar projects.

The new law "authorises the use of nuclear energy in the production of electricity and the desalination of water to meet growing demand in both areas," Petra said.

Jordan, which currently depends on imports for 95 percent of its energy needs, plans to bring a first nuclear power station into operation by 2015.

Power generation for water desalination is a major goal with the kingdom one of the 10 poorest countries in the world in terms of water resources.
